This January many people are turning to veganism, some to set themselves a challenge, others for moral reasons, and some as part of their new years resolutions as a detox to kick the year off. Whatever the reason, we have the products on offer to support your decision into the beauty world. Take a look at our plant based goodies in our shop here. Why not join in this #veganuary and make the switch?
The enviromental impact of switching to plant based ingredients is astonishing. It is an incredible way to have an individual impact on the environment as it can result in halving your greehouse emisions. In order to produce meat, vast quantities of water is used. For example, your average beef steak uses 4650 litres in comparison with 158 litres used to prodcue a soya burger. Vast quanities of energy is used in the production of meat, from clearing land to the slaughtering of the animals. Furthermore, animals release methane gas and animal agriculture is understood to be the highest producer of methane gas worldwide. This gas is 86 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
But its not just about the environment. Many people turn to veganism in order to become healthier and there is a rise in the number of vegan elite althetes and health magazine features on the lifestyle. A plant based diet can cut out cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. The average BMI of a vegan is greatly reduced in comparison with a heavy meat eater and even a vegetarian.
So you want to go vegan? Or perhaps, like us, you want to reduce your meat intake down and participate in weekly plant based days? Where's the protein? Or the fun? Here's our rundown of the top tips we will be following this month.
1. Start Quietly
Okay, so maybe this doesn't apply to us, but it is often suggested you don't shout about it when embarking on veganism to avoid the scruitiny of others.
2. Don't worry about the protein!
There is plenty out there in items like tofu andseitan, quinoa, nuts, and hemp seeds. There are even vegan protein powders out there to get that extra boost. But don't forget the protein rich vegatabless such as broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus to help keep you fuller for longer.
3. Fill the meat void with vegetables not pasta.
Give your body the nurtients it needs from vegetables rather than breads, fries and pasta.
4. You don't have to avoid eating out!
Most restaurants now offer vegan options, if not an entire menu dedicated to it. Even fast food restaurants are catching on and providing indulgent plant based snacks and meals.
5. Think ethnic foods.
Often asian cusines offer a wide variety of options packed with flavour only without animal products originating from Buddhism.
6. It doesn't stop at food!
Perhaps its time to rethink your choice in handbag, beauty products or coat. They may well contain animal products you want to steer clear of!
